
of Warwick, passed away with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer, on September 20, 2009 at his home. He was 87 years old.
Born on January 14, 1922 in the Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late John and Margaret (Neary) O’Rourke.
He was married to Elaine (Stormes) O’Rourke and recently celebrated their 66th anniversary.
A World War II Army veteran, he served in the European Theater of Operations from 1943-45. He was a Manager with NY Telephone Company, Bronx before retiring and was a member of St. Stephen’s RC Church.
A family statement reads: “A loving husband and father, he had a heart of gold.”
He is survived by his wife Elaine, of Warwick; his daughter, Maureen Hambrick and her husband James of Monroe; his sons: James J. O’Rourke and his wife Carla of Newport, RI, Daniel J. O’Rourke and his wife Lynn, of Saratoga Springs, NY, and John T. O’Rourke and his wife Deborah of Syracuse; nine grandchildren: James, Brian, Daniel, Charles, Jillian, Emily, Thomas, Megan and Sean; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Fr. Matthew O’Rourke of Baltimore, MD. He was predeceased by two sisters: Sr. Margaret O’Rourke and Eileen Armstrong, and an infant child, John Michael O’Rourke.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 22nd, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday at St. Stephens RC Church, followed by interment in St. Stephens Cemetery.
