Charles Papaceno

Charles Papaceno of Warwick, NY, passed away at his home on January 30, 2018 at the age of 91.

                          

He was born in Warwick to his parents Arthur Papaceno and Theresa Guzzetti on September 24, 1926.

 

Charlie attended Warwick Valley Schools and graduated from Warwick High School in the

Class of 1943.  He joined the Navy in August of 1944.  After serving during World War II, he was honorably discharged in May of 1946.

 

He worked for the Grand Union Company for 42 years. His career began in the Warwick Grand Union as a stockboy. He worked his way “up the ladder” eventually  gaining the Title of District Sales Manager.

 

Charlie was involved in the community as a charter member of the VFW, member of the Excelsior Fire Company, one of the founding members of the Pee-Wee Football Program, and served as Chairman of the Revenue Committee for Warwick’s Centennial Celebration.  He was also  a member of the National Association of Basketball Officials.   As a parishioner of St. Stephen the Martyr Roman Catholic Church, he served as an Usher for 68 years.

 

He was married to Janet (Ward) Papaceno who predeceased him in 2014. He is survived by a daughter, Pamela and her husband Edward of North Palm Beach, FL; two sons, Charles of Dallas, TX, and Arthur and his wife Alice of Atlanta, GA; three grandchildren: Cosmo, Nichole and Augustus;  a sister, Antoinette McGovern of Warwick and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Rose Manno and Frances Parenti, and brothers, John, Pat, and Nick.

 

Visitation will be Monday, February 5 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church, 75 Sanfordville Road, Warwick, on Tuesday, February 6 at 10:00 a.m.  Interment immediately following in Warwick Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, Charles preferred that you make memorial donations to the American Heart Association, 1 Union Street, #301, Robbinsville, NJ 08691-4183 or to St. Stephen the Martyr Roman Catholic Church, 75 Sanfordville Road, Warwick, NY 10990.
