Steve as a Friend to the Arts
I was pleased to learn that Steve was writing novels the last few years. I knew him as an active, generous supporter of literature. For years he gave my Poetry on the Loose Reading/Performance Series a perfect home in his building overlooking the creek, and then one day he proposed to expand poetry activities by founding the Northeast Poetry Center which.for four years offered writing workshops and invited distinguished visiting writers. None of this would have happened without Steve's material support and, even more significantly, his imagination. He ran his business expertly, but he wanted more, and found it in the arts. Though I have been out of touch with him, I am glad to have known him and fully appreciate his contributions, both in his own work and in helping to create opportunities for others. My wife Patricia and I offer our sympathy to Norma, Henry, and Steve.
