Welcome Pie
It was March 7, 1997 and my family was moving to West Nyack in Rockland County, NY.
We were all excited. Coming from the Bronx, West Nyack felt like the country side. It was my husband, 2 children, my mom and little sister. It was a little scary to move so far away from everyone and everything we knew. We were all busy unpacking, the kids were wandering and exploring outside. When there was a knock on the door. I opened it and there stood Jean Rieschl holding a pie in her hands and a smile on her face. Hi, she said this is to welcome you and your family to our community. As I took the pie from her hands and said thank you, I knew instantly that this person was going to influence my life in a very good way. I have never forgotten Jeans gracious and giving ways. Always ready to help anyone.
Our families grew very close, having picnics, dinners and dessert parties. When they moved away it broke our hearts. But she was always in my thoughts and prayers. She kept in touch with my mom for awhile. But as time passed and everyone grew older we lost touch with her. My family and I were deeply touched when we heard she had passed. Our thoughts and prayers are with Talley, Billy and Cathy. I'm glad we have lots of memories to fall back on.
