Thomas F. McGovern, Sr.

Thomas F. McGovern passed away on May 08, 2021 at St. Joseph's Place in Port Jervis, NY. He was 92 years old.

He was born on November 18, 1928, in Warwick, NY - the youngest of four children, to Bernard and Marguerite McGovern. He graduated from Warwick Valley High School in 1946 and then served for two years in the U.S. Navy aboard the destroyer USS Waldron - DD699.

Thomas was employed for 40 years at the Lehigh and Hudson River Railway in Warwick. He eventually retired as an engineer with CONRAIL. He was also employed as a toll collector for the NYS Thruway Authority, a bus driver for the Warwick School System and as a Bailiff for both the Village of Florida and the Town of Warwick Courts.

In his long life of public service, Thomas was a 70 year member of the Raymond Hose Company in Warwick and a thirty year member of the Warwick Community Ambulance Service. He was a member of the L&HRR Alumni Association, the Peace Officers' Association of Orange County and the Tin Can Sailors.

He was predeceased by his wife – Sarah B. McGovern (2013), his siblings: Rita Hayes (2014), Leo McGovern (2001), Bernard McGovern (2013) and his granddaughter - Sarah Lauren McGovern (2009).

Thomas is survived by his four sons – Thomas F. McGovern Jr. (Bernadette) of Greenwood Lake; Brad H. McGovern, Charles B. McGovern and David B. McGovern, all of Warwick. His grandchildren – Derrick Styczek, Amanda Styczek, Lori McGovern, Brian McGovern and Jessica Bluto (Derek).

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at St. Joseph's Place for their compassion and care during his stay there.

Memorial contributions in Thomas’ name are asked to be sent to the Warwick Volunteer Ambulance Corps., P.O. Box 315, Warwick, NY 10990 or the Alzheimers’ Association of Orange County, 384 Crystal Run Road, Suite 102, Middletown, NY 10940.

Arrangements will be at the convenience of the family at a later date.
