Tony J. Cossentino of Warwick, passed away unexpectedly on January 20, 2020 with his family by his side. He was 70 years old.

Born in Hoboken, NJ on October 24, 1949, he was the son of Jean (nee Graziosi) and Salvatore Cossentino. Tony was a boxing trainer in Warwick.

Tony was the owner of Salon de Carol in Warwick for over 50 years. Tony was part of the fabric of Warwick. Everyone knew him as “Tony the Barber” and he always took time to greet everyone Tony would always tell a great story to anyone who was willing to listen. He will be missed by the residents of Mt. Alverno Assisted Living Center who looked forward to seeing him for the styling services he provided there.

A family statement reads, “Tony was absolutely the best family man. Family was everything. He adored his wife and family. His grandchildren were his special loves.”

Tony is survived by the love of his life, Carol, his wife of 50 years; sons, Vincent and Anthony; daughter, Jill; grandchildren, Vincent, Alyssa and Brendan and their mother, Mary Ruman; sisters, Marion Glorie and her husband Jim of Colorado Springs, CO and Angela Cossentino of Middletown, NY; mother-in-law, Lucille Conklin of Warwick; brother-in-law, Robert Conklin of Pine Bush; many nieces and nephews; and a special person, Eonbi Choi of South Korea.

Visitation will be on Thursday, January 23 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick, NY. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 24 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s RC Church, 14 Glenmere Avenue, Florida, NY followed by interment in St. Stephen Cemetery, Route 17A, Warwick.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Tony’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.

To Carol and family, I am saddened to hear about Tony. Carol I just saw you both. You looked great both of you. I was away with Aliza, left on the 20th and came home on the 24. I would have came to pay my respects to all of you. You were always good to me, when Alleah died, you were there for me, I will never forget. Carol I’m sorry, please send my prayers to all. Tony lived next door to us for several years on Highland Avenue. He and my brother Kevin were best buddies. Great guy. I remember his horrific accident near Glenmere Homesites Road in his 58 Pontiac, and I remember him "schooling" one of the local bullies when they first moved to Warwick.

Dear Carol and family, We are deeply saddened to hear of Tony's passing. Not only has Warwick lost a wonderful member of the community, we have also lost a friend. We are in Texas until March and, unfortunately, unable to attend Tony's service. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family Jim & Joan Carton

Dear Carol, Anthony, Vinny, and Jill, I was shocked and heartbroken to hear the news about Tony's passing. He and your family were such a part of my life in Warwick and so many memories of fun times shared together came to mind. "Paulie" was a great friend to Bruce and was always so kind to me and both our families. He always made me laugh whether the four of us were out for dinner, at a boxing match or at one of your backyard barbecues. I'll always remember Salon de Carol and the time Dr. Nik's sign hung over the shop. And, of course, Paulie was one of the best men at our wedding. I hope some of these memories have brought a smile to your face and you will think of them during the difficult days and weeks ahead. Sending you all my love. Rest in Peace, Paulie. Love you. Judy
