Lorraine S. Cunningham

10/31/2023

Lorraine Cunningham, beloved wife, mother, and pillar of strength, passed away on October 31, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion that will forever be cherished.

Born on July 2nd, 1947, in Queens, NY, to Michael and Kaye McCabe, Lorraine's life was one dedicated to the well-being and happiness of those around her.

Throughout her 53 years of marriage to her devoted husband, Tom Cunningham, Lorraine fostered a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support. Their love story is one for the books.

She was the adored mother of Coleen Connolly, Sara Carlone, Kelly Birish and Megan Cunningham.

She cherished her sons-in-law: Barry Connolly, Anthony Carlone, and Patrick Birish. One of Lorraine's greatest joys was being a grandmother and spoiling her grandchildren: Sofia, Fin, Millie, TJ, Mae, and Charlie. Her family was the center of her universe and her profound influence on their lives will remain everlasting.

Lorraine will be greatly missed by her siblings. She is survived by her sister Michelle and husband Jack, sister Suzanne and husband Oskar, brother James and his wife Amanda, sister Marjorie and husband Dean and brother Michael and wife Debbie.  Lorraine is also survived by her devoted nieces and nephews: Stephen, Christian, David, John, Harry, Quinn, Michael, Cara, Connor, and Evan.

Lorraine's generous spirit extended beyond her family, embracing all who had the fortune of crossing her path. Her compassion and generosity were felt by all who walked through her door. A seat at her kitchen table was met with love, laughter, and a glass of her favorite champagne.

Among her many passions, spending cherished moments with her family at the beach brought her the greatest joy. She loved betting the horses and sharing the stories of the many adventures she and Tom had during his horse training days. Lorraine's compassion, resilience, and unwavering strength defined her character, leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know her.

As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, let us carry forward the lessons of love and selflessness that she so gracefully exemplified. Lorraine’s memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were touched by her warmth and kindness. Her faith in God throughout her life was unwavering and we take comfort in knowing that she is at home with God.  We will miss you mom.

Visitation will be on Thursday, November 2, 2023, from 2-4:00 and 7- 9:00 p.m. at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick, NY. Tom and girls, I am so sorry for your loss. I have so many great memories of the time I spent with all of you. Going to Meadowlands to the races, dinner in Saratoga with the underwriters from Lloyd's of London to pool parties and my first glass of champagne. May your memories carry you all through the days ahead. Kathy❤️
