Michael McTiernan
9/10/2023
Michael McTiernan, 75, died on Sunday, September 10, from complications following a prolonged illness.
Michael was the youngest of four children born on April 5, 1948, in the Bronx, New York to Bridget and Michael, immigrants from Ireland both. He grew up in the Bronx, where he met his future wife, Rose.
With Rose, his wife of 40 years, Michael raised two daughters in Sayreville, NJ. Michael encouraged his daughters to be honest, independent-minded and diligent, and believed they could do anything they put their minds to.
Michael is survived by his three siblings, two daughters, four grandchildren, nine nieces and nephews and their children, as well as a beloved circle of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose, many years ago.
Michael loved nothing more than to go on his boat and fish in the lake, create something in his workshop, and make someone laugh out loud with his irreverent sense of humor. According to family lore, he was an extremely fast sprinter in high school who won every race he entered. He proudly belonged to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for his entire working life, and gladly commuted to New York City, the city he loved and knew best. Michael was a Beatles fan and a student of American history, especially the Revolutionary War. He had an ability to be remarkably patient, and was known to be a straight shooter, as well as a dear friend.
In recent years, Michael was fortunate to find love late in life with Diane, a dear family friend, who lovingly came into his life in the most beautiful way and brought out the best in him in his later years, while providing strength and support during his illness.
The funeral will be private, though if you would like information about the service, please email [email protected].
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Michael’s memory to the Truth Initiative, a non-profit dedicated to achieving a culture where young people reject smoking, vaping and nicotine, at https://truthinitiative.org/donate.
