Orville Smith

Orville L. Smith of Warwick, NY and formerly of Beacon, NY passed away on May 25, 2023, at Arden Court in Whippany, NJ. He was 92 years old.
Born in New Brunswick, NJ April 28, 1931, the son of the late Earle and Grace (nee Ruckman) Smith. He was predeceased by his wife Joyce (nee Secor) to whom he was married July 22, 1967.
Orville served in the US Navy from 1951-1955 and was very proud of his service in the Korean War. He worked for 30 years for IBM in many places as a programmer, electronics technician and in desktop support. Orville was also a voracious reader and had an intense interest in genealogy. He had many varied interests and enjoyed gardening and animals and until recently he could likely be found out in the yard trimming trees, shoring up the land near the creek, mowing or generally tinkering with something that caught his attention. He always had stray parts just in case he’d need them later. Family was always a central part of his life and in addition to camping he raced BMX bikes with his children during the 80’s and 90’s. Orville was a small craft pilot and loved sea planes, he loved all aircraft, as well as motorcycles and cars.
Orville is survived by his daughter Jennifer Lemin and her husband Bob of Warwick, NY; son Douglas and his wife Michelle of Morristown, NJ ; 3 grandchildren Kyle, Ryan and Holly Frischknecht; sister Evelyn of Milltown, NJ. He was predeceased by his wife Joyce Smith and his daughter Christine, and brothers Melvin and Richard Smith.
After suffering a stroke in 2020 he spent the last two and a half years with his Arden Courts family. Their love and caring made the difference between just surviving and living and enjoying life to his ability. The family would like to express their love and gratitude for his Arden family.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick, NY. Interment will follow at Warwick Cemetery.
Donation in Orville’s memory may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or to the Warwick Animal Shelter.
