Mark H. Ryan

Mark H. Ryan of Westtown, NY (formerly of Staten Island and Brooklyn) passed away on January 8, 2023 at Garnet Medical Center, Wallkill, NY. He was 58 years old.

Born March 3, 1964, in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late William F. and Ruth (Kelly) Ryan.

Mark worked for 18 years as a delivery driver with Whaleco Oil in Brooklyn. In 1999, he achieved his dream of becoming a fireman with the FDNY on Staten Island Ladder Co. 87 where he was an FDNY first responder to 9/11. Mark was a member of the FDNY Ceremonial Unit and continued to help the Unit after his retirement. He also volunteered with the Tunnels to Towers organization. Fellow firefighters called Mark “The Chef”.

Mark is survived by his wife Jan(nee Stedman); daughter Kaitlyn Ryan of Westtown, NY; son Zachary Mark Ryan and his fiance’ Mary Rose of Buffalo, NY; daughter Meaghan Ryan of Westtown, NY; siblings: Elizabeth Oberheim and her husband Henry of Congers, NY, Thomas Ryan and his wife Rosemary of Katonah, NY, Matthew Ryan and his wife Mary Ann of Rivervale, NJ, David Ryan of Nanuet, NY and sister-in-law Bernadette Garguilo and her husband Ray of Manchester, NJ; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother William F. Ryan, Jr. and two sisters-in-law Marta Ryan and Victoria Ryan.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick, NY. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Still Road, Monroe, NY 10950 on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be livestreamed via this link: https://youtu.be/zBeCnh7V9rg
