Joseph R. Stanaitis

11/28/2020

Joseph R. Stanaitis of Warwick, NY passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on November 28, 2020.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, on July 28, 1936, he was the son of Joseph and Aldonna (Paukstaitis) Stanaitis.

Joseph was a retired telecommunications analyst for Beneficial Management Corp.  He was also a volunteer at St. Anthony Community Hospital for several years, lending a hand delivering flowers and transporting patients who were leaving the hospital while imparting his own genuine humor to those whom he helped.

He was a man who possessed many God given gifts. One of his greatest gifts was his love of making people laugh, regardless of the situation.   During his final weeks, many a time he left the nurses who cared for him and the family who loved him in stitches.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Evelyn (nee Cantalope); and two sons, Sam and Matt (and Matt's wife Jennifer); cousin Paul Tafuro and his wife Maureen; cousin Eddie Paukstaitis and his wife Wendy; and goddaughter Lisa Pignetti and her daughter Tia of Newburgh, NY.  He was predeceased by a brother, Roger Stanaitis in 2006.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, private arrangements were made.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Joe and I have been communicating regularly for the past several years. We shared many things in common, and I was literally "shocked" to learn of his death as he never mentioned being that ill. He was a unique man, gifted writer (though his "ungift" was deliberately NEVER using "Spell check." His dying, following the recent loss of John Antonacci, is just too much. God Bless You, Joe, and tell John I said "Hi," and I'll be glad to see each of you again in the near future. Jerry Merna, St. Dominic's 1942-44; St. Agnes, 1944-46, US Marine Corps the next 30!

In 2010 Joe reached out to find his Uncle Edward Paukstaitis (my paternal Grandfather) and started our email correspondence for a decade. Joe was very good at looking up genealogy and located my address that way. Until Joe reached out, I never knew much if anything about where the Paukstaitis Family Story started in the US, relatives, etc... I am eternally grateful for the knowledge that was passed on to me that would otherwise be lost to the ages. I will miss our emails on various topics and disappointed that I will never meet Joe face to face. My condolences to Maureen and the rest of the Family. Joe will be missed by many!

My memories of Joe always begin with his enthusiasm for life: from charitable work to politics. While not a close relationship, over the seventy years we knew each other (especially the last few) Joe always responded to me when it mattered.. Condolences to his family.
