Jennie D. Sefton

Jennie D. Sefton of Bronxville, NY (formerly of Staten Island) passed away on December 30, 2019. She was 96 years old.

 

Born September 9, 1923 in Staten Island, NY she was the daughter of the late Jennie and Joseph Porretta.

 

Jennie was a graduate of Port Richmond High School and attended NYU. She had an adventurous spirit and worked abroad as a young woman. She was a chief accountant for construction firms in Tripoli, Libya, and Bangkok, Thailand where she met and married her late husband, William H. Sefton, who was a Royal Air Force officer assigned to the British Embassy in Thailand.

 

Jennie worked as a controller for both Pan American Airlines and the Blind Brook Club. After retiring at age 83, she continued her adventurous spirit and traveled the world.

 

She was a Lady of Charity for 60 years as well as a board member of the Pan Am Historical Foundation.  She was an active member of St. Joseph Church as a lector, Eucharistic minister, and past president of the ladies’ auxiliary.

 

Jennie is survived by her sister, Marion Portera of Warwick, NY; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, William; siblings: Josephine Wright, Pauline, Berardinelli and Peter Porretta.

 

A Mass is scheduled for January 18, 2020 at 10:45 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 15 Cedar Street, Bronxville, NY.  Interment will be private.
