Dieter H.H. Staritz

Dieter H.H. Staritz of Warwick, NY, passed away unexpectedly on June 10, 2019 at Mt. Sinai Hospital, New York, NY. He was 78 years old. Born in Berlin, Germany, he was the son of the late Johannes and Hildegard (Masalsky) Staritz.

Dieter is survived by his wife of 44 years, Chris (Scharff); his son Peter and his wife Amy and their children, Natalie, Luke, Katie and Caleb of Pittsburgh, PA. One of Dieter’s greatest joys in life was spending time with Peter and his family.

Dieter is also survived by his two brothers of Berlin Germany: Peter Staritz, his three children and four grandchildren and Klaus, his daughter and four grandchildren. Additionally, Dieter is survived by hisinlaws Alfred and Irma Scharff of Amherst, MA; brother-in-law Chip Scharff and his wife Cheryl and their three sons of Monument, CO; his sister-in-law Anne Austin of Pine, CO; brother-in-law Eric Scharff and his wife Lin and son of Myrtle Beach, SC; his sister-in-law Robin Scharff of Las Vegas, NV and his brother-in-law David Scharff and his wife Lani and their two children of Honolulu, HI.

Dieter served in the U.S. Army from 1964-1967.

Dieter, who was warm and profoundly kind and gentle, was always willing to help family and friends. His skills as a master craftsman have transformed many of Warwick’s homes. Dieter was an avid tennis player and enjoyed travel. Dieter was a creative cook for Sunday potluck dinners which he often hosted with his wife, Chris for the past 40 years.

For the past several years, Dieter had been restoring a 1959 Jaguar XK150, which he unfortunately never got to drive.

Arrangements were private.
