Daniel J. Murphy of Greenwood Lake, NY passed away peacefully with his family by his side on November 20, 2018. He was 84 years old.
He was born to parents Patrick and Annie (McKenna) Murphy on September 27, 1934 in the Bronx.
Danny was past Exalted Ruler of the GWL Elks Club; a longtime member of the GWL American Legion Post 1443; and an active parishioner at Holy Rosary Church.
He was the owner of the family business, Murphy’s Park Inn in Greenwood Lake for over 50 years. He loved his community of GWL and brought much to the village; his many good deeds were done quietly without recognition, as he wanted it that way.
Athletics were important to Danny; he enjoyed golf, boxing and even played on the first football team at Monroe-Woodbury High School; his true love, however, was baseball. He played and coached several teams - Murphy’s softball team was very close to his heart.
Danny was outspoken about how much he cherished every moment spent with family and friends; he will be terribly missed by all who had the good fortune to know and love him.
He is survived by his son, Steven Murphy and wife, Mary of Memphis, TN; his daughter, Karen Annicaro and husband Frank of Warwick, NY; four grandchildren: Ashley, Frank, Analise, and Daniel; and two brothers, Bernard Murphy of Westford, MA and John Murphy of Long Island, NY. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Wanda “Terri” Murphy and son, Gerard Murphy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 24 at 12:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 41 Windermere Avenue, Greenwood Lake, with interment immediately following the mass at St. Stephen’s Cemetery, 98 Galloway Road, Warwick, NY.
