James Wright

9/24/2018

James Arthur Wright, of Warwick, NY, passed away peacefully at his cabin in the Adirondacks on Monday, September 24, 2018, he was 78 years old.

Jim was born May 24, 1940, in Warwick, NY to the late Joseph & Verna Wright.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lois Johnson Wright; his son, Brian Wright; his daughter, Nicole Wright Benzie and her husband, Larry; his grandchildren, Zachary and Keira Benzie; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Edward Wright, and his sister, Nina Wright.

After graduating from Warwick High School, Jim was a Sergeant in the United States Army and worked in Research & Development at Union Carbide, in Tuxedo, NY.  A lifelong resident of Warwick, he loved to share his stories about flying airplanes at the Warwick Airport and his adventures growing up at Wickham Lake and Wright Family Farm.

Jim was an avid fisherman and loved to be at his cabin on Osgood Pond.  Known to many as “The Fish Whisperer” he taught countless friends and family members all about fishing.

During the last years of his life, Jim was devoted to taking care of his wife, Lois.  He was a loving husband and father who provided a wonderful life for his family in the house he proudly built for them himself.  He was also a very special “Poppy” to his grandchildren and he will forever be loved and missed by those who knew him.

Visitation will be Saturday, September 29, from 2-6 p.m. with a funeral service at 2:00 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick, NY.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Jim's memory to Schervier Pavilion, 22 Van Duzer Place, Warwick, NY 10990.

We just received the news yesterday of Jim's passing and extend our most sincere condolences to Lois, Brian, Nicole and the rest of the Wright family. We are so sorry that we didn't know before now. Our home in the Adirondacks is just down the hill and across the road from Jim and Lois and we have had the pleasure of knowing them for the past 20 years. They have been wonderful neighbors! We will miss Jim (the fish whisperer) very much; he was a kind, considerate and intelligent man and we greatly admired the way that he looked after Lois. RIP, Jim. Jeff, Dolores, Danielle and Alden.

Marshann and I moved in across the street from Jim and Lois, and the short time we have been here I always look forward to talking to Jim when he was sitting on the porch. We had a lot of common interest especially fishing. We are both sorry for your loss

Lois, Brian and Nicole (and Family) Mark, the girls and I were very saddened to hear of Jim’s passing. When we moved to Osgood in 1996, it was always a treat to see Lois and Jim arrive and even more special to see them out in the boat, enjoying the water, fish and most importantly each other. He was one of the nicest people on the road and when we moved last year we knew we would miss seeing both Jim and Lois. You are all in our thoughts . Jen, Mark, Sarah and Emma

Sorry for your loss. I graduated with Jim and went all through school with him. We use to ride the bus to school when I live out of town. We were 7,8 and 9. I moved back into town before I was 10. Fond memories. My Husband and I lost our older son in 2016. He is in a beautiful place, a place where Jim is now. God be with you.
