Gordon John Brown, Jr.

Gordon John Brown Jr., of Greenville/Pt. Jervis(formerly of Warwick), passed away on January 8, 2018, at Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown. He was 71 years old. 

Born in the Bronx on August 7, 1946, to the late Gordon John Brown, Sr. and Effie (Hanlon) Brown. He was married for 50 years to his wife Kathleen (Lamphear) Brown.

He served as a U.S. Marine in the 1st Battalion in the Vietnam War; and later graduated from Fordham University. He was a NYC Police Detective in the 44th Precinct and a member of the 44 Forever Club.

Gordon was a parishioner of St. Stephen’s RC Church for many years and a lifetime member of the VFW Warwick #4662.

He is survived by his wife Kathleen at home; son Gordon John Brown III and wife Holly of Warwick; a daughter Dawn Curabba and her husband Jason of Shohola, PA; a brother Peter Brown of Myrtle Beach, SC; a sister Eileen Brown of NYC; five grandchildren(who knew and loved him as “Pa”): Gordon John Brown IV, Hunter Brown, Jack Curabba, Quinn Curabba and Regan Curabba; and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by two sisters-in-law Claudia Brown and Elizabeth O’Brien.


The family would like to thank the medical staff and all those who cared for Gordon while at St. Anthony Community Hospital and Orange Regional Medical Center.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 14, 2018, from 2 - 6 p.m. at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick, NY. Mass will be Monday, January 15 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen’s RC Church, 75 Sanfordville Road, Warwick. Private cremation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

I f Gordon let you be his friend you couldn't have gotten a better one. Whatever you needed he was there to help. His wit alone could make you laugh when you were depressed. He cheered up and before you knew it you were laughing. Whatever you needed he was there for you. I sure he had a Friend upstairs who figured he suffered enough and needed him up there to make him laugh a little because of what's going on down here.
