Patrick J. Dolan

10/2/2017

Patrick J. Dolan of Warwick, NY and formerly of Throggs Neck, NY passed away on October 2, 2017 . He was 89 years old.

Patrick was born and raised in the Bronx, the eldest of five children, of John Farrell Dolan and Mary Kate (McSherry) Dolan.

Dad was born into St. Luke’s Parish on 138th St. and spent summers in Rockaway Beach with family, later serving as a Rockaway Beach lifeguard. A city boy, he attributed his love for the outdoors to his time as a Boy Scout hiking Hunters Island and Orchard Beach. He proudly played football and saxophone for Cardinal Hayes High School, and later served on the Class of ‘47 Fundraising Committee to give back to the Hayes education he took such great pride in. Dad served in the Army, stationed in Watertown, NY and was a member of Silver Beach American Legion Post 1371 for 18 years. Following his service in the Army, he played for “The Clippers” Throggs Neck Football team. Patrick met and married his “Sweetheart” Deirdre (O’Brien) Dolan on the tennis courts of Cresthaven Country Club in Whitestone, Queens. They went on to raise 2 daughters on E. Tremont Avenue. Dad was employed as a railroad mail clerk and later was assigned to the Throggs Neck Post Office, where he worked for 37 years before retiring. He enjoyed a lifetime of dancing, tennis swimming, ice skating, biking and skiing. He served as President of the Cresthaven Ski Club with his life-long friends. Dad, along with his friends and family, shared his love for life at Tower Mountain Lodge and Jiminy Peak, Hancock, MA.

Dad loved his family and his greatest love was being a father and grandfather. Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Grace Dolan-Davis & Michael Davis of Warwick, NY and Regina Dolan-Shaw & Christopher Shaw of Rye Brook, NY; his grandchildren, Deirdre Davis, Connor Davis, Courtney Shaw and Kaitlyn Shaw; his siblings James Dolan, Marjorie Malone and Maryellen Gillis and their spouses and many loved cousins, nieces and nephews. Patrick was blessed with his dear friend Teresa Rouge and shared many years of laughter, love and memories. He was predeceased by his wife, Deirdre Dolan (1977) and his brother Fr. Francis Dolan.

The family would like to express our gratitude to Colleen Tierney for her time, joy and the adventures she shared with Dad during his time in Warwick. Special thanks to all the staff at Mount Alverno and Schervier Pavilion who loved Pat as he loved them back, to Dr. David Kang for his gentle care, The Golden Floridian Senior Group, and all the friends on Beverly Drive who welcomed Patrick.
