Hugo Visconti, 91, of Warwick, passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at his home on Park Lane.
Born August 17, 1925 in Maplewood, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Joseph and Josephine Visconti and the last of their seven children.
Mr. Visconti, a World War II veteran who served in the Army Air Corps, was a Fire Officer for thirty four years with the New York City Fire Department. Prior to that, he was a Motorcycle Patrolman and Precinct Policeman with the New York City Police Department for six years.
He was a former Trustee and Secretary of the Board at The Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome and Museum in Rhinebeck, New York. During his time at the Aerodrome, he reorganized the Aerodrome’s Museum as well as worked on the restoration of several vintage aircraft used in the summer weekend air shows. Due to this love of flight, he wrote numerous historical articles and a book on early aviation.
He was a loving father, devoted grandfather and above all, a beloved husband to his wife of 49 years , Lillian, who predeceased him. He was always giving of himself, not only in love but in so many other ways, offering his many talents to anyone and everyone, never asking for anything in return.
He is survived by his daughter Anne Cajigas and her husband Wilfred, his son Michael Visconti, his granddaughter Emily Cajigas, his sister-in-law Rose Giaccio, his sister-in-law Elaine Visconti and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from on Sunday, June 25th, from 3:00-6:00 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Monday at St. Stephens’s Church in Warwick. Entombment will be in Ferncliff Cemetery, Hartsdale, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
