Willard M. Sartell, 86, of Vernon, NJ, passed away with his family by his side on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at St. Anthony Community Hospital, Warwick, NY.
He was born in Ararat, PA to the late Glenn and the late Delcie (Avery) Sartell on January 17, 1931.
He was the husband of the late Jean E. Sartell, who predeceased him in 2013 after 57 years of marriage.
He was employed at Vernon Twp., NJ Road Department for over 40 years, retiring in 1993.
He took great pride in taking care of his home, gardening and keeping his yard well kept. He enjoyed going to Tricky Trays and being with his family. He was a U. S. Army veteran.
The family would like to thank everyone at Schervier Pavilion for his wonderful care while he was there, and also the doctors and nurses in ICU at St. Anthony’s for their compassion and care. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Give Mom a big hug from us. Mom and Dad together once again.
He is survived by his son Willard G. Sartell and his wife Barbara of Cambridge, NY, daughter Donna Quackenbush and her husband Darell of Pine Island, NY, and daughter Carol Vanherwynen and her husband John of Montague, NJ; grandchildren: David Sartell and his wife Jeanna of Hudson Falls, NY, Daniel Sartell and his fiancé Heather Anuszewski of Salem, NY, Roy Quackenbush and his wife Kacie of Pine Island, NY, Geoffrey Quackenbush and his wife Brittany of Vernon, NJ, Jonathon Vanherwynen of Montague, NJ, Joseph Vanherwynen and fiancé Rheannon Coleman of Middletown, NY, and Megan Vanherwynen of Montague, NJ; and great-grandchildren: Arianna, Landon, Patrick, Payton, Paige, Kendall and Rose. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 21st, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick, NY. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday at the funeral home, followed by interment in Glenwood Cemetery.
Donations in his memory may be made to Schervier Pavilion Recreation Dept, 22 Van Duzer Place, Warwick, NY 10990. They always kept Dad busy with doing activities.
