Vera Peterson

9/7/2016

Vera Peterson, of Warwick, NY, formerly of Lakewood, West Paterson, and Clifton, NJ, passed away on September 7, 2016, at Schervier Pavilion in Warwick, NY.  She was 87 years old.

Born on January 7, 1929, in Passaic, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Elia and Sadie  Boyko, the youngest of their seven children.

She was the wife of the late Henry J. Peterson (2005) with whom she enjoyed a long and happy marriage. They were “like two peas in a pod” and were inseparable once retired, enjoying everything together: breakfast out, road trips, and visiting with family and friends.

Vera is survived by her children: her son David H. Peterson and his wife Julie of Westtown, NY, and her son Donald J. Peterson and his wife Darlene of Denville, NJ; her brother Michael Boyko; her grandchildren: Nathaniel Peterson and his wife Amanda, Joshua Peterson and his wife Cyndi, Rachel Lindeman and her husband Eric, Jordyn Curley and her husband Charlie, Kyle Peterson, and Anna Peterson; and four great-grandchildren: Hannah and Emmaline Peterson and Korban and Bria Peterson.

Vera was known for her strong Christian faith and gift of hospitality, frequently hosting gatherings of family and friends in her home. She took a deep and sincere interest in people. She treasured her family and friends, encouraged them, and prayed for them. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.

A special thank you to the wonderful care-givers at Hope Gardens of Warwick, NY, and the nurses and staff of Schervier Pavilion of Warwick, NY, whose compassion and care helped Vera in her final days.

Visitation will be on Friday, September 9, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick, NY.  Funeral Service will follow at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Interment with graveside committal service will take place Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton, NJ.

I was so sorry to hear of your mother's home going, and yet we know that she is now in her Savior's arms-she is complete. Aunt Vera was a true Proverbs 31 woman; a woman of dignity and wisdom who opened her loving arms to all of us. I always felt very special in her presence. May the Lord bless you and keep you in these days ahead as you ponder your cherished memories. Janet and Bruce Chambers

I am sorry for the loss of your Mom, my Aunt Vera, but know she is in a better place. I will always remember her love for life and brilliant smile. I was so happy watching the video tribute to her and loved seeing photos of the Boyko family in early years, as well as all the photos of your children, Dave and Don...and even some grandchildren. Time passes by so quickly. My Dad has been gone for 16 years, and Mom for 11. I know we all will remember our parents, and especially how blessed we were (and are) to have such a strong Christian legacy. God bless you all. Ingrid and I send our love and prayers.

It was a great joy to know your mom. I enjoyed her very much when she stayed with us in Franklin. Vera and my mom kept playing musical remote. She'll be missed. Our deepest sympathy.
