Richard D. Whitbeck

Richard D. Whitbeck, of Warwick, passed away on July 7, 2016 at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. He was 84 years old.

Born on March 28, 1932 in Albany, NY, he was the son of the late Judson and Kathryn (Dyke) Whitbeck.

He was married in 1954 to Margaret Howell Whitbeck, his wife of 63 years.

He served with the US Navy from 1951-55 aboard the destroyer USS Perry. He was a member of the VFW Post #4662 in Warwick. He was a past master of the Masonic Lodge.

He attended SUNY at Cobleskill and he worked as an Inside Plant Manager with Warwick Valley Telephone Company where he worked for 40 years, and was a member of the United States Telephone Organization and the Telephone Pioneers. A member of the Warwick Reformed Church, he served on the consistory and the search committee.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Warwick; his son, Craig E. Whitbeck and his wife Doreen of Westtown, NY; his grandchildren: Philip Whitbeck of Greenville, Brianne Wood of Roscoe, Deena Koch of Buffalo, April Whitbeck of Germany and Stephanie Kadletz of Valparaiso, IN; and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Capt. Dyke Whitbeck and a brother, Judson Whitbeck.

Memorial visitation will be held on Monday July 11, 2016 from 12:00 pm- 2:00 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm. Interment will be in Warwick Cemetery.
