Veronica Harper, of Warwick, NY, formerly of New York, NY, passed away on January 6, 2016 at Orange Regional Medical Center. She was 71 years old.
Born on February 26, 1944 in New York, NY, she was the daughter of the late Violet Mitchell and James Harper.
Veronica known as Ronnie to family and friends, enjoyed sewing, interior decorating, she would make her own drapery, fashionable clothing for herself and daughter, often dressed as twins. She would be called Ms. Fashionista; in this new millennium, she had the eye for style. She also had a green thumb when it came to plants, she managed to have a small garden in her New York City apartment. Veronica was heavily into astrology, she spent many hours on the weekend with her sisters talking about astrology.
From her early years she worked as a telephone operator at the Empire State Building while she continued her education in becoming a Certified Public Accountant. After receiving her degree, Veronica worked with the state of California as a CPA in New York City, where she traveled the east coast. When she got a job in Florida, she gladly took her daughter and her grandson (their first airplane ride) so they could enjoy Disney World as she worked.
Veronica retired in 1998. After retiring, she became a huge tennis fan and you could not call her when tennis was on, especially when Serena & Venus were playing. Her next passion was sleeping and cooking. Who could blame her after all the years of traveling, living out of suit cases and hotels.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Sheree Harper of Warwick; her grandson, David Harper of Jersey City, NJ; four great-grandchildren: Natalya, Isaiah, David, Jr., and Ayana. her siblings: Emily Sherman of NYC, Marcia Hunter of NYC, Duke Hunter, Lamont Hunter, Wilburt Hunter and Raymond Copeland, all of Richmond, VA. She was predeceased by sisters Celeste Harper and Velda Johnson, and brothers Michael Harper, James (Bumpy) Harper and Kount Hunter.
Visitation will be on Sunday, January 10th, from 11:00am-2:00 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm. Cremation will be private. All are invited to the repast at 10 Hedges Road, Warwick, NY 10990.
