M. Frank "Bud" Leary

M. Frank (Bud) Leary, a five year resident of Warwick, and formerly a 60 year resident of Seaford, LI, passed away on November 3, 2015 at Schervier Pavilion.  He was 94 years old. 

Born on November 7, 1920 in Nanuet, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph and Frances (Frohling) Leary. 

He was married to Marilyn (Hackett) Leary for 69 years. 

A Navy veteran of World War II, he was an Accountant with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in Lynbrook, Long Island, before retiring and was an Adjunct Professor at the College of Insurance in NYC.  A member of St. Stephens RC Church in Warwick, he was formerly a member St. William the Abbott RC Church in Seaford, where he served on the school board of St. Williams School, was a member of the Holy Name Society, the Knights of Columbus, a leader of the Nocturnal Adoration Society, and started CYO baseball.  

A family statement reads: “ Bud loved sports, including golf at his favorite courses in Bethpage.  He cherished the memory of playing a NYC baseball championship at Ebbets Field, NY in 1936.  Always loving baseball, he was an avid Mets fan.  Many who knew him have said ‘we have lost the nicest man the world has known.’  He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.”

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of Warwick;  his four children:  Barbara and her husband Bob, Steve and his wife Ann Marie, Greg and his wife Barbara, and John and his wife Phyllis;  ten grandchildren:  Paul and wife Emily, Mark and wife Michele, Stephanie and fiance Ryan, Shawn and wife Megan, Scott, Brian and fiancée Raji, Colleen and husband Brian, Patrick, Jake and Max; and eight great-grandchildren:  Paige, Cameron, Charles, Ella, Sadie, Tate, Gavin and Graham. He is also survived by brother-in-law Byron Hackett and his wife Katie, and all the Rockland County cousins.  He was predeceased by two brothers, Norman and Russell.

Visitation will be on Friday, November 6th, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick, NY.  Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am on Saturday at St. Stephens RC Church.  Private cremation.
