Edna Elaine Shird

Edna Elaine “Buppy” Anderson Shird passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 19th, 2015. She was 80 yrs old.
Born March 5th, 1935 in Warwick, NY at St. Anthony's hospital. She was the only child of Ethel Grant Anderson and Wilbur L. Anderson. She was also the first cesarean section ever performed in Orange County, NY.
Edna graduated from Orange County Community College in 1959 with a degree in Nursing. Her career then took her to Jacobi Hospital as a RN nurse in radiology and as a lecturer at Einstein Medical School.
She spent some time residing in Queens, NY where she began her family with the birth of her son, Steven Bruce Shird, and her daughter, Linda Carol Shird Garcia. She then returned to Warwick and continued to lead a very full and prosperous life surrounded by love ones.
After more than 35 yrs in her field, she retired in 1996. She maintained her active lifestyle by developing many interests and participating in various events. She was an avid bowler, gardener, a meals-on-wheels volunteer, and as a parishioner of Christ Church Warwick, NY, she often was involved in church activities, such as the thrift shop and the annual apple butter making fundraiser. Her Sunday afternoon and evening activities often included watching football and she loved having a weekly lunch with close friends. She also enjoyed traveling. Her most recent adventure was to Massachusetts this June with her dear friend Donald R. McFarland and the Pine Island Seniors .
Edna always made time for her family, especially her grandchildren, and was a very big contributing factor to their lives. Her legacy lives on with her son, Steven Bruce Shird and his wife, Louise Allen, of New York City and daughter, Linda Carol Shird Garcia, and her husband Marshall Garcia of Warwick, NY, her grandchildren, Samantha Jennings, Sabrina Jennings, Amanda Garcia, and Marshall T. Garcia, and finally, all her beloved pets.
Memorial Visitation will be Saturday, August 22nd, from 2:00-4:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave, Warwick.
Memorial service will be Sunday, August 23rd at 4:30 pm at Christ Episcopal Church in Warwick, NY.
