Dr. Christopher H. N. Demos

Dr. Christopher H. N. Demos, of Warwick, NY, and Venice, FL, passed away on June 4, 2015 at his home in Warwick. He was 90 years old.
Born on April 23, 1925 in Chatham, NY, Dr. Demos was the son of the late Nicholas and Pota Demos. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen “Kay” Conn Demos of Warwick; his daughter, Patricia Urban of Blackwood, NJ; his son, Paul Demos and his wife Alyssa of Yardley, PA; a sister, Athena Kendris of Staten Island; step-children: Michael Conn and his wife Denise, Kathleen Jensen and husband Mark, Maureen Brent and husband John, five step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth (Swanson) Demos, sister Harriet Bland and grandson Christopher Paul Demos.
Dr. Demos was a graduate of Union College, Schenectady NY and Albany Medical College. After completing internship and residency programs for board qualification in Internal Medicine and Allergy, he spent a brief time in private practice before embarking on a long career in the pharmaceutical industry. He held a number of research related roles with firms including Lederle Laboratories, Syntex Laboratories, ER Squibb and Sons and Hoffman La-Roche. He retired from E. I. DuPont de Nemours and Co. In Wilmington, Delaware in 1990.
Chris always gave generously of his time, serving as a founding member of the Pascack Mental Health Center in New Jersey and treating patients in many clinic settings. In later years, when he spent winters in Florida, he worked as a volunteer physician at the Senior Friendship Center in Venice and was active in the Salvation Army organization. A longtime boater and sailor, he also served as a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He began painting in his 80's and often gave his completed work as gifts to friends and family members.
Visitation will be on Monday, June 8th, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 9th, at St. Stephens RC Church in Warwick, followed by private cremation.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the ALS Association Greater New York Chapter, 42 Broadway, Suite 1724, New York, NY 10004 or to the Christopher Demos Memorial Brain Tumor Foundation of the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region, 1201 15th Street NW, Washington, DC 20005. This latter organization was established in memory of Chris' grandson with whom he shared a very special bond.
