Ruth A. Scheuermann

5/28/2015

Ruth A. Scheuermann, of Warwick, passed away on May 28, 2015 at Schervier Pavilion.  She was 82 years old.

Born on October 13, 1932 in Bergenfield, NJ and one of their nine children, she was the daughter of the late Louis A. Vozza, Sr. and Gertrude Watson Vozza.

She was married to the late Christian Scheuermann (1976).

Ruth was formerly a Baker with several retail and wholesale bakeries in Rockland and Bergen counties.  She was a member of the Warwick Reformed Church.

A family statement reads:  “Ruth was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend.  In her younger years, she pursued golf with a passion, capped off in 1965 when at seven months pregnant,  she won the President’s Cup at Orange County Golf Club.  As a member of the Warwick community, she mentored and mothered countless children, creating a home that rang with laughter and joy.  Her heart and door were always open.  In later years, she took to the Hudson River as a competent captain of her own boat, “The 19th Hole”.  Ruth gushed with pride as she witnessed each of her daughter’s graduations, from playschool through Master’s degree.  Her joy in later years came making memories with her grandchildren and close friends and family.  To the end, she remained focused on lending her compassion to others.  She will be deeply missed and forever respected and loved.”

She is survived by her daughter, Heidi Scheuermann-Rau and her husband Walter of Half Moon Bay, CA; two granddaughters:  Dania Gabriella and Elle Louisa; two brothers:  John Vozza, Sr. and Daniel Vozza.  She was predeceased by siblings:  Louis Vozza, Jr., Anthony Vozza, Edith Jennings, Joseph Vozza, Alice Benedetto and Frank Vozza.

Visitation will be on Sunday, May 31st, from 10:30 am-12:30 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick, followed by a funeral service at 12:30.  Private cremation.

Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 6725 Lyons St., E. Syracuse, NY  13057.
