Gertrude Mae Murphy Uthus

Gertrude Mae Murphy Uthus, age 88, passed into eternal rest on Monday, October 27, 2014 at Calvary Hospital’s Hospice Care Unit in the Bronx, NY. She had been a resident of East Haven Nursing Home, also in the Bronx.
Gertrude was affectionately known as Trudy by family and friends. She was born October 19, 1926 in Belfast, Maine, the daughter of the late Charles E. and Nellie Cousins Walker and had six siblings: Lillian, Shirley, Betty, Margaret, Charlene and Charles (all deceased).
Gertrude married the late Hans Uthus July 24, 1943 in Brooklyn, N.Y. and gave birth to two daughters Eline (m. Ernest Hill) and Myrtle Uthus, who predeceased her mother.
Gertrude possessed a natural innate musical talent whereby she could play any piece of music after hearing it once. Her favorite of all instruments was the guitar.
In 1960, she and her family moved to Warwick, N.Y. where they resided until 1982.
She had three grandchildren, Valerie Hill (m. R. Gallo), Christine Hill (m. David Priest), and Ernest Hill (m. Ingrid LaCasse). She also had six great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Gertrude will be greatly missed, but her life … bound through the strings of our hearts will be celebrated in a private service at the family’s discretion.
